   Redefined City

How can we define the city in which we live? Do we consider the city’s historical context or do we base it off of our personal experiences and interpretations? How would the definition differ between the locals and visitors? Can we find any similarities between them?

There are several components that bring about change to a city: Capital influx, political background, and social issues which influence a city’s infrastructure and context. Visitors can also change it. “Redefined City” is a commissioned project by the Artists Residency Program in Gunsan. This project addresses the continuously redefined Gunsan by visitors and locals.

The redesigned tour programs are exchanged back and forth until both parties are satisfied with the final product. To explain in more detail, after following the tour map designed by the locals, the visitors redesign the map based on their feedback. The locals will then follow the map that had been updated by the visitors, and then redesign it themselves. This process is repeated until both sides agree on the final product.

[STEPs]

STEP_01 : Present Gunsan. Visitors (artists) follows the tour map designed by locals.
STEP_02 : Visitors (artists) redesign the map upon their experience and feedback.
STEP_03 : Locals follows the map redesigned by visitors.
STEP_04 : Locals redesign the tour map upon their experience.
STEP_05 : Steps 1-4 are repeated until both locals and visitors are satisfied.
